How to join the Application Review Workgroup

Carson City seeks a diverse pool of subject matter experts to serve as peer reviewers who will objectively evaluate grant applications. Peer reviewers are selected based on their knowledge, skill, and expertise.

Carson City is seeking reviewers with knowledge and expertise in:

  • Grants management
  • Non-profits
  • Local government
  • Public works
  • Substance abuse services
  • Domestic abuse services
  • Disabled services
  • Mental health services
  • Health services
  • Dental services
  • Senior services
  • Youth services

Time Commitment

Reviewers should expect to commit approximately 30 hours during a two or three-week period to complete the review. The peer review will consist of three components:

  1. Application Review Workgroup training, one 2-hour session
  2. Individual review period; approximately 2 hours per grant application
  3. Workgroup review meeting, approximately 5 hours depending upon the number of applications to be reviewed.

Peer Reviewer Requirements

Prospective peer reviewers must be:

  • Willing and able to provide written and oral comments based on their professional knowledge.
  • Able to listen attentively to the input of other reviewers.
  • Able to engage in discussion.
  • Willing to collaborate and compromise, especially when resolving discrepancies in scoring.

Reviewers must possess the highest level professional and personal standards to:

  • Ethically review proprietary information
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Avoid any conflict of Interest

Honorarium

Carson City does not pay peer reviewers. Service on the Application Review Workgroup is voluntary.

Reviewer Selection

Applying to be a reviewer does not guarantee your selection. Reviewers are selected based on their qualifications, experience, and corresponding fit with the applications. Reviewers may include employees from public and private sector, universities and colleges, community volunteers, retirees, and other appropriate backgrounds as determined by Carson City.

Any prospective reviewers with a conflict of interest will be ineligible to serve.
